Ethical & Sustainable Promise

I am committed to running an ethical and sustainable business, ensuring both people and the environment are treated fairly & respectfully. Here are some of the steps I take to make this happen...

Recycled Materials ♻

All of my jewellery is hand made using recycled sterling silver from UK suppliers. Recycled silver is the same quality as new sterling silver, it retains all the same properties - no purity is lost in the recycling process. You cannot tell it apart from newly mined silver. The process of recycling silver is less damaging to the environment in terms of energy use and CO2 emissions, and also means no new holes are dug in the earth, and un-safe or un-ethical mining practices are avoided. As well as recycled sterling silver, I use recycled materials such as Surfite and sea glass & pottery (collected by me!), as an alternative to mined gemstones.

Packaging 🎁

I really want my customers to enjoy the experience of opening their new 'Rebecca Davies Jewellery' piece. I have spent a lot of time researching and sourcing beautiful, sustainable packaging and I hope it fills you with as much joy to open as it does when I pack it! I really do love packing! I use recycled, acid-free tissue paper, handmade recycled paper confetti, recyclable paper tape, recycled card jewellery boxes - which can be recycled or kept to store your jewellery. My business cards are printed on recycled card and even the 'plastic' pouches your polishing cloths come in are plant-based and plastic-free! All of the packaging has been designed with sustainability in mind.

Posting 📦

Sadly there is no longer a post office in my village. Since travelling to the post office every day is not sustainable, I generally opt for a collection from Royal Mail. I do travel to the post office If you have requested an urgent/next-day delivery.

Royal Mail - I use Royal Mail as they have the lowest carbon footprint of any delivery service - with most mail being delivered on foot. I use letter-box friendly postal boxes meaning no extra trips to re-deliver or collect items if you are not home to receive them!

I Plant a Tree for Every Order 🌱

I partnered with 'The Good API' (formerly 'Sprout'). The Good API supports hundreds of tree planting and carbon offsetting projects all over the world and also runs ocean bound plastic removal projects. My partnership with them means that one tree is planted for every order.

Workshop 🔨

I am really proud of the fact that most of my workshop is up-cycled and second hand. I built my workbench from old furniture, my shelving is from timber off-cuts and my grid-wall is re-purposed from an old 1970s camping kitchen! I buy second-hand tools where I can, and I love that some of my hammers are over 100 years old and still used regularly! I try to use sustainable materials, opting for wood and metal over plastic, wherever possible. I try to avoid single-use plastics in the workshop and ensure chemicals such as polishing compounds, are non-toxic and safely disposed of.

I am continually adapting and amending the way I work to ensure I am as ethical and sustainable as possible. I am always open to new ideas, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear from you. Get in touch with me at hello@rebeccadaviesjewellery.com
